At the time of this writing the worst of the materialistic age is over; the day of a better understanding is already beginning to dawn. The higher minds of the scientific world are no longer wholly materialistic in their philosophy, but the rank and file of the people still lean in that direction as a result of former teachings. But this age of physical realism is only a passing episode in man’s life on earth.[1]
When The Urantia Book was published in 1955 they stated that the worst of this materialistic age is over; it is certainly comforting that a day of a better understanding is beginning to dawn. This new day will include a better understanding of spiritual reality and will also include increased appreciation of universal brotherhood. It will realize the establishment of Earth Federation based on global sovereignty. This new day is now truly dawning and the appearance of The Urantia Book itself is evidence of that. The formulation of the Constitution for the Federation of Earth is part of this dawn of a new day. It is imperative that each of us seek to become part of this new day, to become part of the advancement of society, to participate in the oncoming tide of universal brotherhood, and to work toward a wider recognition that each thinking mortal has a spark of our Heavenly Father residing within.
“This age of physical realism is only a passing episode….” This materialistic age will end and we will become more aware of spiritual reality, more aware of our spiritual potential. We will pass from this age where we are fixated on physical matters into a time where we become eager to explore spiritual reality. This will be a major step for humanity, something we should look forward to and prepare for; we do this by studying this Epochal Revelation we have been given, The Urantia Book.
During times of transition life becomes difficult. We long to cling to the familiar forms of the past while new ideas, concepts, and ways of interacting keep intruding into our existence. These new ways are unfamiliar and make us uncomfortable but they are a breath of fresh air when we fully incorporate them into our life.
Any time of significant transition is unstable and difficult by nature; during these times we become aware of our needs, our shortcomings as well as possibilities for something better. Only when we strive to become aware of spiritual reality do we find we are able to weather the storm of transitions and function in harmony with reality. During these transition times family life and personal religious experience suffer.[2] Therefore our lives need a firm moral foundation for these trying times, our Heavenly Father.
Our troubled planet desperately needs a proclamation of the full message of Jesus without the centuries of dogma that has permeated it. The hour is striking for presenting to Buddhism, to Christianity, to Hinduism, even to the peoples of all faiths, not the gospel about Jesus, but the living, spiritual reality of the gospel of Jesus.[3] This living gospel of Jesus will transform the life on our planet and on all the other planets in his universe. This will happen but each of us must decide if we are to cooperate with this transformation. Are we going to be on the side of spiritual progress or on the side of sinking back into the same old way of living? Each one of us will be held accountable for our decisions and our actions; each will be asked what they did to help God, to further His purposes, to do His will. Where do you stand?
As we have discussed previously, every thinking mortal on Earth has an actual fragment of our Heavenly Father dwelling within. God is not only everywhere but He is also a real and vital part of our being; a part of every mortal on this planet and on every planet. God is not only everywhere but is also an integral part of each thinking person in all of creation.
You might think “If God were on my side then I could not fail.” Guess what: He is!
What do you think would happen if our civilization would finally and fully implement the teachings of Jesus? What would be the consequence? The actual teachings of Jesus were all about brotherhood, service, love, joy, inclusion and faith, even such as the faith of a little child. Indeed, the social readjustments, the economic transformations, the moral rejuvenations, and the religious revisions of Christian civilization would be drastic and revolutionary if the living religion of Jesus should suddenly supplant the theologic religion about Jesus.[4]
There is a battle between those seeking a progressive approach to solving our common problems and those seeking to minimize the effectiveness of governmental oversight; they seek total personal liberty at the cost of disenfranchising everyone else. If one man is to be absolutely free, then another must become an absolute slave. And the relative nature of freedom is true socially, economically, and politically. Freedom is the gift of civilization made possible by the enforcement of LAW.[5] Freedom is meaningless unless it is available to everyone, not just a select few who happen to have the right skin color or the right sex or the right religion or whatever. Each one of us must make the decision which side we are on and act accordingly. Are we on the side of peace and inclusion or on the side of exclusion, separation and the rest of the fallout from the Lucifer Manifesto? By means of these decisions in our everyday lives we either help or hinder this battle for man’s liberty.
By our actions and by our very lives each one of us needs to declare exactly where we stand in this spiritual struggle. We must declare.
Truth seekers will be the major figures in this spiritual struggle to retake this world for Michael, our Jesus.
A truth seeker is a person who actively seeks a wider truth; they want to learn more about many subjects. A truth seeker is not satisfied with who they are, they want to know more and be more.
Jesus was a truth giver; he was the truth for that generation on Urantia. When a great truth seeker and a great truth giver meet, the result is a great and liberating enlightenment born of the experience of new truth.[6]
Jesus was indeed truth for that time and for all time; he has sent us the Spirit of Truth to guide each of us into a fuller realization of truth. As we study the account of his life as revealed in The Urantia Book, we can appreciate the depth and power of the truth of Jesus.
Truth seekers have a strong, undefinable urge to seek something better, something of meaning for their lives. Often they do not know what they are seeking or even that they are seeking; there is something missing in their existence, they seek fulfillment. They are vulnerable to false truth, to misleading accounts but through it all they keep on seeking. Before I found the truth of The Urantia Book I studied many esoteric books but they were not satisfying. When this revelation found me I devoured it, feeling compelled to keep studying it even though I could little comprehend it at first. I was driven to find truth; The Urantia Book is truth for our times.
Truth seekers have a curiosity about many things, a thirst for knowledge; they feel driven, perhaps even guided. They want to know more and will not be satisfied with partial answers, with half truths. They seek meaning for their existence.
When they find something of spiritual value, something of worth they can recognize, they seize it and embrace it. Now they have something meaningful to latch onto, to embrace. Their passion for truth is being realized as this new truth is investigated.
Once this has been identified, truth seekers will then act based on their understanding of this truth, this vital knowledge they have discovered. This truth will be meaningless if it is not shared and acted upon. Stagnant truth is dead truth; it is no longer truth.
As these truth seekers grow in their knowledge of this discovered truth they are persistent in following through, in continuing to grow in their awareness and implementation of this truth in their daily lives. They fully live this truth.
Living truth teaches the truth seeker aright only when it is embraced in wholeness and as a living spiritual reality, not as a fact of material science or an inspiration of intervening art.[7]
The truth discovered by such a seeker must be fully embraced and allowed to transform the seeker, which is the goal of seeking. Once such a truth has transformed the life of the seeker it will be evident in the seeker’s life and interactions with others; when this happens others will be drawn to such a person who has found and expresses truth in their life.
